Oklahoma weather, you are wacky. We are sitting pretty at 60 degree weather enjoying the sunshine. Why are people scrambling to the store for food & water, shovels and other winter survival items?

Because we are expecting a winter storm Thursday and Friday. We will be monitoring tomorrow's weather carefully to see if we will be opening.
I'm hoping it's not as bad as they are thinking. It better not be another winter storm 2002 where people were without power and holding each other tight for warmth.

You know what we held tight today?

New toasts & robot plush from Samaria Project!
They are perfect for the young & young at heart!

Seriously, I think the Oklahoma meteorologists are playing a prank on us.

LOST STARTS THEIR FINAL SEASON NEXT WEEK!!!

To be honest, we didn't start watching LOST until last summer. We were watching the movie I love you man and they made a reference to LOST and we thought, hey it's on instant netflix, let's give it a go.
From the first episode we were hooked. We would stay awake until 4am because it was getting so good, we couldn't stop watching! I think it took us 2 weeks to watch season 1-5.
It was fantastic.

Below is a video recapping seasons 1-5 in only 8 minutes and 15 seconds! Hehe!
If you haven't seen lost and don't want to have it spoiled please do not watch the video.

Can't wait!

Meet A Maker- Fried Okra

We'd like to introduce you to this week's Meet A Maker!
Meet Adrian Mix, creator of Fried Okra.
Location: Ponca City, Oklahoma
the awesomeness: sock monkeys and coffee cuffs

*how did you come up with the name Fried Okra?

I was hungry! It's always been my absolute favorite food :) Okra any other way is totally disgusting, the slime factor is overwhelming.

*Can you tell us a little about your background and what compelled you to start a craft business?
I've just always really enjoyed making things, it's like an itch you can never scratch. Mom's super creative, sisters, grandmother, grandfather, etc... all artisans in their own way :)
I started selling simply so I could stay home with the kids and not have to go get some soul sucking job. And now I can pay for my own fabric :)

*Where does your inspiration come from?

The socks speak to me! They tell me they long to be a sock monkey, they don't want to live their life stuffed in a shoe :)
For real though... colors, patterns, texture, old & new mixed together.

*2 favorite websites?

Etsy of course!
I'm a big fan of these blogs, simply as a needed daily laugh:
www.cakewrecks.blogspot.com
www.awkwardfamilyphotos.com/

*What’s next for Fried Okra?

I've recently gotten hooked on weaving, I can feel it leading me in a fun direction.
A lot of the same ole same ole, fabric keeps me always interested and inspired.

*Any tips or advice for anyone starting their own craft business?

I don't feel especially qualified for this question!
Be your own person!
Branding too, make yourself recognizable.

* 5 random facts about you!

1. I am a *huge* Wes Anderson fan. He is genius :)
2. My sister and I learned to knit from an issue of Martha Stewart Kids. Well, she learned then showed me what I was doing wrong.
3. I'm secretly hooked on Plants vs. Zombies, I play everyone elses account while they're at school/work. I think I'm pretty darn good!
4. I have 13 earrings in each ear. No particular reason, just stopped at 13 :)
5. I'm actually a very shy hermit-like person, what you see is my nervous-don't-mind-me-I'm-totally-cool alter ego.

You can find Adrian's sock monkeys and coffee cuffs here at the felt bird!

They need your help

I'm sure most of you have heard about the devastating event that occurred in Haiti on Tuesday.
The worst earthquake in 200 years (7.0 in magnitude) struck just before 5pm 10 miles away from Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti.
Hundreds of thousands are feared dead a day after the devastation and the toll is rising.

It's hard to sit here and not do anything. That's why The Felt Bird is taking action.
For the month of January we will donate $1 for every item purchased.

We will make weekly donations to Partners in Health.

The work of PIH has three goals: to care for our patients, to alleviate the root causes of disease in their communities, and to share lessons learned around the world. Through long-term partnerships with our sister organizations, we bring the benefits of modern medical science to those most in need and work to alleviate the crushing economic and social burdens of poverty that exacerbate disease. PIH believes that health is a fundamental right, not a privilege.

For more information on Partners in Health or to make a direct donation please visit their website at www.pih.org.

You can also make a $10 donation to the American Red Cross relief fund by texting 'Haiti' to 90999. This will be added to your cell phone bill.

If you'd like to donate through a different organization please visit Charity Navigator to help decide.

Valentine's Day is just around the corner!

We have a Valentine's Day table that has lots of perfect goodies to give to your love, friends, and family!
No need to hate this holiday!
